Minecraft

Not a single advert. No tutorial. A game about reconfiguring blocks in a more pleasing way. A game about survival. A virtual online world without any of the cynicism or hollow pseudo-socialising.

The world sat up and took notice. A man became a millionaire without the support of a corporation. People who barely even played games built impossible creations.

People still talk, almost with a degree of horror, of the strangeness that such a thing would be such a success. Why can’t they see that it was inevitable? Don’t fight so hard and spend so much to bring people to your door. Just leave it wide open and see what happens. I am in love.

Questions

I find it easier to just answer questions as I receive them in a blog post. So, here goes!

Mike - Ryan eats ANYTHING you give him. He actually developed a taste for some of the stuff he ate!

KBo - No, you were first. This blog’s extremely new, so if it develops, you can say you were there from the start!

leftish asked: Hello ~ I follow fuckyeahrandombritishindiebands too - I noticed your comment about "Finally" someone who likes the Smiths, and I just wanted to let you know that there are many, many, MANY people who adore The Smiths - they, along with Joy Division/New Order, and all the other Manchester "Factory Records" bands are the Grandparents of the whole movement. They are not only loved by older post-punk/indie band lovers, they are also loved by hipsters, and younger people. I'm sorry you don't know anyone who likes The Smiths - they are often the first non-mainstream band that people discover, and are often considered a gateway to a whole realm of music you "can't find on the radio". Who else do you like?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to send me a message. I do know people who like the Smiths and Factory, I just have had a lack of people who enjoy their music after moving out of Manchester. I’ve met Tony Wilson a few times, never Morrissey though. As well as the Smiths and New Order, I like Sixties stuff (The Beatles, the Stones, etc.) indie bands such as Fleet Foxes and Belle and Sebastian and general punk music. I also have a soft spot for The Who. You?

On Google

Google is taking over the world. It’s really quite obvious when you think about it. There’s the eponymous search engine, now the most popular in the world and a synonym for searching on the internet. Then there’s Gmail, of which I am a member, Google Docs, which I use occasionally and YouTube, the (IMHO) best video sharing system ever devised. It’s definitely the most popular, anyway. Google now own FeedBurner (http://feedburner.google.com/) which is used for this very blog. I like Google, but I’m not sure I like their style. They seem to keep everything in Beta instead of fully developing anything so they can keep tweaking their products.

And, of course, there is Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en-GB/landing_tv.html) which I’m using to type this blog post.

Google, I love you, but you do very strange things to my web history.

It’s Alive!

Yay! Llamas! Science! Randomness! PORK!

See, there I just screamed pork. There’s the randomness, in case you were wondering. This is a blog about llamas, technology and shiny stuff, among other things.

Enjoy!
